How to care
for a piece.

Washing
Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle. Cold water is always preferable. The embroidery is resilient when washed with care — don't wash it aggressively. Turn the piece inside out before washing.

Drying
Air dry, laid flat or hung. Avoid the dryer — heat contracts linen and can distort the embroidery over time. In Bali or anywhere warm, an hour in the shade is all it takes.

Ironing
Iron on low heat, always on the reverse side. Never iron directly onto the embroidery — the thread can flatten and lose its texture. Steam is fine.

Storage
Fold loosely or hang — linen doesn't like to be compressed for long periods. Avoid plastic bags; let the fabric breathe.

Repair
UKENA offers a care and repair service. Any piece with a passport — an Object ID — can be returned to the studio for maintenance. Repairs are logged as history events in the passport. The piece carries its history forward.
